St Benedicts Single Story Extension – case study

Design Brief:
R. Hughes Designs was approached to design a single-story extension that would create more living space and improve the overall flow of their home. The client wanted an L-shaped extension that would wrap around the back of the house, providing a seamless connection between the existing living spaces and the new extension. The extension was to include a new open-plan kitchen, dining and living area, a gym, and a study.
Design Solution:
R. Hughes Designs created an L-shaped extension that seamlessly blended with the existing property. The design featured a large open-plan living space with skylights, and bi-folding doors that opened out onto the garden. The kitchen was designed to be the heart of the home, with a large island, ample storage, and modern appliances. The dining area was positioned to take advantage of the views of the garden, and the living area was designed to be cosy and inviting with a log burner.
The master bedroom was located at the end of the extension, providing a quiet retreat for the clients. The room was designed with large windows to allow natural light to flood in and included an en-suite bathroom with a walk-in shower. The study was positioned off the main living area and was designed to be a bright and functional workspace.

The construction of the L-shaped extension was carried out by a local building contractor. The work involved creating the foundations, erecting the structural walls, installing the roof, and fitting the windows and doors. The interior of the extension was then fitted out by a specialist kitchen and bathroom company.

The L-shaped extension designed by R. Hughes Designs transformed there home, providing them with the additional living space they needed and improving the overall flow of the property. The open-plan living area is now the heart of the home and provides the perfect space for entertaining family and friends. The master bedroom is a peaceful retreat, and the study is a functional workspace that is flooded with natural light. The L-shaped extension has also added value to the property, making it a more desirable home for potential buyers in the future
